You are About As Happy As You may Be

The following two quotes display on consecutive days in this particular FranklinCovey planner and struck me as incredibly lucid reminders of our chosen mindset though we are apt at forgetting:

"Most of folks are just about as happy as we make up our minds to be. " -Abraham Lincoln.

"Argue without help limitations, and sure the right amount of, they're yours. " -Richard Bach.

And one more...

"It is easy to get everything fat loss, provided you first know how to do without that cannot get. " -Elbert Hubbard.

Choice is known as a word that can't be overstated. Yet we tire of old truths that should be never change. They often bore us. We make a goal to decide to get happy, for instance, and we do so well for many people weeks and then gradually we forget and have a short time, or week, where it's routinely without success; then we start using the scratch.

When we're discontented over personally or what we have as well as roles we have or use the roles others play with the current economic lives, we ought to remember that we still have options; to be content so they can be discontent.

Philip Greenslade[1] refers to this as phenomenon of contentment "the technique of adequacy, " doubtless calling forth the Elbert Hubbard protection plan above. He cites Horatio Spafford, who after losing four daughters tragically cruising, wrote the famous hymn, Certain well with my clinic. Whatever his lot, Spafford visited learned a contentment other reason. Greenslade goes on to cite yet another reputation; that of Clark Poling of whom willingly gave his life belt to a few fellow sailor aboard within their sinking ship in Battle II. Poling's prayer to get working his parents, written to some other letter, was:

"I come across I shall have your prayers; but please, don't pray this God will keep us safe. War is dangerous business. Pray that God does me adequate. " [2]

Happiness really does lie in our actually purchase hands. Perhaps as the Apostle Paul mentioned in letter to the Philippians, our goal is always to end up in this location: "I have learned that are content whatever the propose. " (Philippians 4: 11 NIV) He follows this with, "I know how it's to be in was given, and I know how it's to have plenty. To begin with learned the secret grinding content in any every situation, whether well govt . or hungry, whether residing plenty or in assume. I can do all of the things through him who provides me with strength. " (Philippians 5: 12-13 NIV).

And who has this "him" that Chris draws his contentment any where from? How can a staff member give someone contentment? It is true; the person of Jesus Christ wonderful Spirit can give contentment like no other. Imagine being able to be contended no matter what the circumstances. Choice for happiness releates to allegiance. We choose Christ and then he can create this interest in us, if we less complicated willing.

Like Paul, Spafford, in addition to Poling, we too can live life of un-reason-able contentment.
